It complicates the product
A preparation that requires an additional ingredient to work is a harder sell than one that does not.

The aroma
Terpenes are also non-polar. A fat-free infusion loses most of the aromatic character along with everything else, which is why such preparations taste largely of the other botanicals.

Why that is the easier demonstration
Because you can perceive it directly. Nothing about the compound content is detectable, and the aroma difference confirms the same mechanism.

That the extraction is working. A fat-based infusion that smells of the plant material is one where the non-polar fraction reached the liquid.
The other botanicals in these blends
What they usually are
Mint, chamomile, lemon balm, hibiscus and similar. Familiar infusion ingredients chosen for taste.

Flavour and aroma, extracted normally by water because their aromatic compounds are more water-soluble.
Why that is worth knowing
Because a fat-free preparation tastes of them and of very little else. The pleasant result is coming almost entirely from the additions.
